SOBRE ESTE WORKSHOP

Fotógrafo Luís Mileu

Nasceu em 1972 em Estremoz, com os ocres e sombras expressivas do Alentejo como tela e símbolo de uma infância livre. Depois dos estudos no IADE numa Lisboa onde sai dos becos e ruelas para desenhar as avenidas e praças de uma metrópole cosmopolita, começa a fotografar de forma singular os detalhes do quotidiano, os ângulos e perspectivas irregulares, o peculiar e curioso.

 

É o fotógrafo do “acidente coreografado”,

do instante, da surpresa, do “suspenso”.

 

Depois de projetos editoriais e audiovisuais um pouco por todo o mundo, do Japão e Índia aos EUA e Cuba, regressa sempre às ruas e às casas caiadas que lhe proporcionam o momento, o motivo e a memória a partilhar.

Objectivos

O principal objectivo deste workshop, mais do que aprender novas habilidades técnicas, passa por despertar um olhar novo para o que nos rodeia e de transformar cada viagem num projeto fotográfico que conte uma história. A história desta viagem.

PROGRAM

DAY 1

Welcome to Marrakech. Upon arrival at the airport, your designated driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. In case of early arrival, your driver can also take you on a tour to explore some of Marrakech's best attractions. Hotel: Riad Zaki or similar

DAY 2

Exploring Marrakech. Prepare to embark on a journey through the enchanting city of Marrakech, today we’ll uncover the secrets of this vibrant metropolis, starting at the city’s beating heart, Jemaa el-Fnaa. This UNESCO World Heritage Site comes alive during the day as we explore the bustling souks and craft stalls, and transforms into a mesmerizing spectacle at night, with musicians, storytellers and engaging food vendors inviting us to partake in the city’s vibrant spirit. We’ll delve deeper into the city’s soul until we find the Bahia Palace, a 19th-century architectural masterpiece. Its exquisitely decorated rooms, courtyards and gardens offer a glimpse into the opulence of Moroccan royalty. Our journey through history continues with the Saadian Tombs, a fascinating collection of mausoleums and ornate decorations dating back to the 16th century. Marvel at the iconic Koutoubia Mosque, the largest in Marrakech, with its impressive minaret towering over the city skyline. Although non-Muslims are not allowed inside the mosque, its impressive architecture can be admired from the outside. A highlight of your visit will certainly be the Majorelle Garden, once owned by French painter Jacques Majorelle. Here you’ll find an oasis of exotic plants, vibrant blue structures and a museum dedicated to Berber culture. Be sure to book your ticket a day in advance to ensure a hassle-free visit. As you explore further, you’ll discover the remains of grandeur at the El Badi Palace, and delve into the history of Islamic scholarship at the Ben Youssef Madrasa where you’ll lose yourself in the labyrinthine souks where spices, textiles, ceramics, lamps and other traditional crafts await. To enrich our cultural experience, a visit to the historic Jewish Quarter, Mellah, with its rich heritage and synagogues, is a must. Marrakech is a city that effortlessly combines history, culture and architecture, creating a colourful tapestry of Moroccan life. As we travel through these captivating places, we immerse ourselves in the essence of Marrakech, where each step leads to a deeper discovery and appreciation of this remarkable city. DAY 3

Marrakech to Ouarzazate We start the day in Marrakech with a delicious breakfast, which will energize us for an exciting day of exploration. Today’s journey takes us away from the vibrant cityscape and heads towards the captivating destinations of Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate. Leaving Marrakech, our route takes us through the stunning landscapes of the High Atlas Mountains. Along the way, we stop at the majestic Kasbah Telouet. This historic gem, once the residence of the Glaoui family, features intricate Moroccan architecture and offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. We wander through its corridors and rooms, imagining stories of times gone by. Continuing our journey, we once again cross the picturesque Tizi N’Tichka pass, capturing the picturesque beauty of the High Atlas. We take advantage of the numerous viewpoints to capture memorable photos of the mountains and valleys. Arriving in Ait Benhaddou, it’s time to lose yourself in the mesmerizing charm of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the ancient ksar with its mud-brick structures, narrow alleys and well-preserved kasbahs. Ait Benhaddou’s cinematic allure has made it the setting for numerous films, adding to its mystique. With its unique atmosphere, we immerse ourselves in the history of this living testimony to Morocco’s architectural heritage. After the enchanting visit to Ait Benhaddou, our journey continues towards Ouarzazate. We explore Ouarzazate’s film studios, including the famous Atlas Film Studios, where iconic films have been brought to life. We take a guided tour to discover the sets of cinematic masterpieces such as Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator. In the evening, we stroll through the charming streets of Ouarzazate. We visit the Kasbah Taourirt, an architectural gem that narrates the city’s rich history. We savor the flavors of Moroccan cuisine in a local restaurant, immersing ourselves in the culinary delights of the region. Accommodation: Riad Amlal or similar

DAY 4

Ouarzazate to Marrakech In the morning, we return to Marrakech. After lunch, we can explore Marrakech, or choose activities to do. Hotel: Riad Zaki or similar

DAY 5

Marrakech to Essaouira After breakfast, depart Marrakech for Essaouira, a charming coastal city on the Atlantic Ocean. The journey takes approximately 2.5 hours and passes through beautiful landscapes, including the picturesque village of Chichaoua and the argan forest. Along the way, visitors can stop to admire the views, take photos and stretch their legs. Along the way, we stop at an argan oil cooperative to witness the traditional methods of extracting this valuable oil. We learn about the cooperative’s efforts to support local women and sustain the argan tree ecosystem. We start the day by delving into the historic heart of Essaouira – the UNESCO-listed medina. Stroll through the narrow alleys lined with blue and white buildings, discovering hidden gems such as art galleries, boutiques and traditional crafts. Don’t miss the bustling souks, where you can find unique souvenirs, from intricate handicrafts to vibrant textiles. We explore Skala de la Ville, the historic seaside fortress with its iconic cannons and panoramic views of the coastline. We stroll along the impressive ramparts, absorbing the sights and sounds of the Atlantic waves crashing against the city walls. We capture the essence of Essaouira’s maritime history and enjoy the picturesque views. For lunch, we indulge in a seafood feast at the port. Essaouira is known for its fresh fish, and we can sample a variety of grilled fish, squid and other seafood delicacies at one of the many seaside restaurants. In the afternoon, we visit the Mellah, Essaouira’s historic Jewish quarter. We explore its synagogues, which showcase the city’s diverse cultural heritage. We stroll through the charming streets, discovering the fusion of Moroccan and Jewish influences. Overnight in Essaouira Standard Hotel: Riad Mimouna or similar

DAY 6

Visit to Essaouira, travel to Marrakech Today we will enjoy the morning and early afternoon free to see Essaouira on the way. We can visit other places to take pictures, or see some of the places from the previous day...etc. After a lovely day, we will return to Marrakech, where we will spend the night. DAY 7

Free day in Marrakech There are many activities to do in Marrakech. Hotel: Riad Zaki or similar

DAY 8

End of the Tour in Morocco Day to be managed according to return flights, with the respective transfer. End of the program.
